Pun of the Week: Why did the bike fall over? Because it was too tired! Student Shout Outs: The shout outs this week go to the students and their parents to made it to conferences. It was a pleasure seeing everyone there and ready to participate! General Announcements:
Please look for an announcement in the mailer about the eighth grade candy gram fundraiser coming all of next week as well as the upcoming Thanksgiving Food Drive for the St. Matthias Parish! Weekly Agenda: Sixth grade will continue their work in understanding different ways to display data. We have discussed line plots, frequency tables so far and will continue this week with bar graphs, double bar graphs, circle graphs, and line graphs. Seventh grade and eighth grade will be working with solving linear equations. Seventh grade begins their work on using inverse operations to solve one and two step equations while eighth grade will move through one and two step equations an quickly into multi-step equations. Students will be using their understanding of combining like terms and the distributive property in order to solve equations in the correct order.

Pun of the Week: What is the hottest part of a room? The corner! Because its 90 degrees! Student Shout Outs: This week's 6th Grade shout out will go to Ethan K. Ethan is consistently respectful and listening in class, making sure to get that voice level zero signal up when need be! The 7th Grade shout outs go to Savannah M. and Isaiah S. for their excellent and excited participation in our Number Talks. They try their best and persevere to explain their thought processes clearly on mental math problems. The 8th Grade shout out goes to Aaron P. He won 1st prize in our classroom costume competition on Friday for his creative "Cereal Killer" costume! This past week went quickly and ended with a flurry of fun with our Middle School Halloween Party. Students voted on the best costumes. Top three went to "Cereal Killer", a candy machine costume, Target employee, and the 4 person volleyball squad! Lots of fun was had and lots of candy was consumed, making it a successful celebration.
Please be aware that mandatory conferences are this coming Thursday and Friday. You will need to sign up for a spot using the link sent out with the St. Matthias mailer last Thursday. There is no school on Friday, November 3rd. Weekly Agenda: 6th Grade will be focusing on ratios, in particular scale factors. They can anticipate a quiz on Monday on last weeks lessons on area and perimeter of rectangular shapes. 7th Grade will continue working on combining like terms this week. Then we will begin focusing on inverse operations. 7th grade can expect a quiz this week on combining like terms. 8th Grade is finished with lessons within chapter 2 and will be working on reviewing for the Chapter 2 test on Wednesday. Students will get a study guide Monday and will be able to use this on the test. Please be aware that the 6th grade test has been moved to Friday, October 6th.

(See below) Gael De La Torre for being brave and asking out high school visitors interesting questions! Kenzie Ebert for being thoughtful and writing a "traveling" note to her teachers, encouraging them with their teaching that week ! There are a few things to keep in mind this week:
1. Homework Club begins Monday 10/2 and Thursday 10/5. It will begin directly after school and continue until 4 pm. Please make sure to pick up your student as quickly as possible and in the back parking lot where playground is. 2. Student Leadership T.E.A.M will meet this Wednesday! Please make sure students are on time and ready to go for a new year. 3. Please be aware that progress reports are going home October 19th (Thursday). Parents and students with the username and passwords to last years Powerschool account are able to access Powerschool this year as well. If you are not able to access it, please contact your students' homeroom teachers asap. Notes for 8th grade Math: 8th grade is finishing up the unit on basic Algebra concepts, such as writing equations and inequalities, and graphing a function. Students will have a test this Wednesday, October 4th. They will be able to use the study guide provided to them in class during the test. Notes for 7th Grade Math: Miss K's 7th grade class is working on multiplying and dividing decimals. They will continue on to the basics of the coordinate plane this week. Students will also be preparing for the Chapter 1 test, which will take place on Wednesday, October 11th. Mrs. Rawski's 7th grade class completed their chapter 1 quiz this past Thursday, and will begin this week with multiplying and dividing integers. The projected date for their Chapter 1 test will be Thursday, October 12th. Notes for 6th Grade Math: Students are finishing their introduction to writing numerical and variable expressions. They will finish up Chapter 1 this week with going over problem solving plans. Students will be receiving their study guides the end of the week and will have the Chapter 1 test Wednesday, October 11th. That's it! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call or email me.
